Precision reducers are core devices for power transmission, converting high-speed, low-torque inputs into low-speed, high-torque outputs, and enhancing transmission accuracy and load capacity. They are divided into three categories based on their structure: harmonic, planetary, and RV. Harmonic reducers have advantages such as high reduction ratio, high precision, zero backlash, and small size, making them the mainstream choice for rotary joints in humanoid robots. Planetary reducers are mainly used in light-load automation equipment. RV reducers are used in high-load industrial robots and robotic arms.

Benefiting from the expansion of the robotics industry, the overall market for reducers continues to grow. Estimates indicate that the market size of precision reducers in China's robotics sector will reach approximately 3.5 billion yuan in 2025, and is expected to reach 23.1 billion yuan by 2030, with an average annual compound growth rate of about 45.9%. Specifically, the market sizes of harmonic, planetary, and RV types will be approximately 1.3 billion, 0.6 billion, and 1.6 billion yuan respectively in 2025, and are expected to reach 13.4 billion, 6.2 billion, and 3.5 billion yuan by 2030.

The technical barriers of harmonic reducers are concentrated in tooth profile design, processing technology, and equipment capacity. Japanese manufacturers rely on patented tooth profiles to build core barriers, while domestic manufacturers shorten the processing time of core components by independently developing new tooth profiles and expanding efficient processes such as hobbing and gear shaving, and promote self-research and capacity expansion of equipment, accelerating the process of domestic substitution.

Traditional harmonic drives rely on the elastic deformation of flexible wheels, which have shortcomings in terms of fatigue and impact resistance, making them difficult to adapt to high-frequency impact scenarios such as walking and falling of humanoid robots. New structures such as dual rigid-wheel harmonics and star-wheel reducers avoid the problem of flexible wheel failure by optimizing meshing forces or multi-tooth meshing design, balancing high torque density, impact resistance, and lightweight, and opening up a new path for industrialization.
